Massachusetts PTA through the Health Safety and Wellness Committee has partnered with the Coalition Against Vaping eCigarettes (CAVE) to protect our children from the dangers of Vaping. Please share the school based survey with your teachers, principals, counselors and school nurses so that we can better determine the needs at your school. COVID-19 has created novel challenges related to vaping and the use of other tobacco products by adolescents. This evaluation assesses the extent of the vaping crisis among your students at a time when this problem is less visible to school administrators. This research can help identify what resources your school needs to best assess and address this problem. Some pediatricians in Massachusetts suspect that boredom and isolation related to COVID-19 exacerbate the problem of youth vaping, and data indicate that COVID-19 diagnoses are five times more likely for those students who vape. In the Fall of 2019, Massachusetts banned the sale of all flavored tobacco products. Your responses will help with enforcement of this policy, and may lead to student advocacy and protective legislative efforts in Massachusetts.
