Established during the spring of 2014, the Massachusetts PTA Youth Committee was formed to advocate for youth across the Commonwealth. The Massachusetts PTA Board of Directors voted to form the committee, recognizing the importance of youth voice and in giving youth a seat at the table so that they are able to make decisions and advocate for themselves. Youth committee members have advocated for youth to legislators in Washington D.C. and are active advocates for youth across Massachusetts. The youth committee’s mission is to share will all students across the commonwealth the tools and opportunities that PTA has to offer.
Areas of Focus:
The Massachusetts PTA Youth Committee has outlined four key areas of focus for the organization. These four areas are issues that Massachusetts PTA youth advocate for on behalf of youth across not only the Commonwealth, but across the Nation.
Leadership:
To give Massachusetts PTA youth members the ability to build and enhance their leadership skills and to provide them with opportunities to put these skills into action.
Health:
To ensure that youth across the Commonwealth are healthy so as to achieve their full academic and personal potential. To eliminate stress, encourage more sleep, and to promote exercise and having adhering to a healthy diet. To promote drug and alcohol awareness in schools.
Financial Preparedness:
To educate youth on the importance of being financially prepared, financially literate, and fiscally responsible.
Diversity:
To promote diversity and equality in schools and communities across Massachusetts. To advocate for all individuals regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation or economic status. And to be strong anti-bullying advocates across the Commonwealth so all children have access to a safe educational environment.
